Poppet Seals for Natural Gas Valves |
|
Poppet seals, custom molded from Nitrile and many other high performance elastomeric compounds, are manufactured by
Pelmor® Laboratories, Inc. for use in check valves for pressure relief and shut off devices in natural gas valve
assembly applications.
With a typical poppet the size of approximately 1/4" square by 1/4" long, extremely high precision is required to
mold seals for these intricate parts. While small in size, these poppets perform a critical function in maintaining
a strong sealing surface in low-pressure natural gas applications. Excellent rubber-to-metal bonding, advanced
machining capabilities for trimming molded parts, and pre-forming to 0.5 grams per piece to maximize manufacturing
efficiencies, are among the highly specialized capabilities that Pelmor® brings to the production of these poppet seals.
A small bead of circular rubber compound, bonded to the brass seat of the check valve, forms a strong sealing surface
when the shut-off valve compresses the elastomer. Pelmor’s elastomeric compounds withstand temperature extremes
of -50° to +250° F; resist attack by over 750 corrosive chemicals and other liquids; and exhibit excellent
abrasion resistance. Other properties include: tensile strength of 2350 psi; Shore A durometer of 70 +/- 5; and 330%
elongation.
