Extrusion Capabilities
A state-of-the-art extrusion line, capable of producing intricately shaped profiles while maintaining tight tolerances and product consistency, has been added to the rubber manufacturing facilities of Pelmor® Laboratories, Inc., Newtown, Pa. These upgraded capabilities combine decades of accumulated hands-on knowledge, coupled with a continual dedication to Total Quality.
The centerpiece of the new installation is a 3" cold feed extruder which enhances Pelmor’s ability to produce a broad spectrum of profiles, tubing, and other types of products from a variety of traditional and advanced elastomers, including Perfluoroelastomers and Fluoroelastomers, our specialty.
The new extruder, which is five times more powerful than our other extruder, is capable of rapidly processing larger quantities of rubber, mixing it thoroughly, screening out impurities, producing larger and more complex profiles, and maintaining tighter controls over temperature and pressure.
New also is an electrically heated autoclave with programmable controls and a horizontal, in-line, 25 foot curing oven. In-line curing eliminates the need for talcum powder when curing some types of rubber. For some applications, medical instrumentation for example, talc is an unacceptable impurity. The addition of an electric autoclave averts still another common extrusion problem. Steam autoclaves generate moisture which can permeate the talc and degrade the rubber surface.
In summary, the new equipment opens vistas for Pelmor’s customers in terms of product complexity, size, quality, and potential industrial applications.
